About Me

My Photo
Since becoming an expat in 2008, my life has taken on new meaning. Trading a life of abundance and excess in the US for the unfamiliar and the unexpected while abroad has opened doors I never knew existed. Like adding a pinch of a curious spice to a familiar dish, each new adventure offers a new perspective on the world I thought I knew. And, as it turns out I like a lot of spice! “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain

Home Improvement 101

Since the day we moved in, Jeff and I have been working nearly around the clock in an effort to transform our cave into something livable. Our most recent entries have mentioned our house on more than once occasion, and you may be growing tired of hearing about our "piso". The truth is, we are incredibly proud of the progress we have made on our apartment which is gradually becoming our home. Even Bentley is showing his satisfaction with his new pad...he has his very own perch from which he has a panoramic view of our street and of the one pigeon who frequents it.

This weekend and the one before was spent making minor renovations and repairs to our house. A lime green wall has become a soft, sunny yellow in the living room and a light blue in the kitchen. With a twist of a screwdriver, the turning of a few screws, and the stroke of a brush, our mission is nearly complete! Here you'll find just a few of our "before and after" shots. Remember...it's still a work in progress!

* BEFORE *

The pictures above are of the main living area upstairs. It's basically one giant room with a kitchen and a VERY small separate room in the very back. We clearly had a lot of work ahead of us, and this is only half of our apartment!

* AFTER *

There you have it! We have made strides in the kitchen as well, but we're not quite ready to post pictures of it. Once we're ready to go public, we'll add pictures of the kitchen and downstairs living area. Stay tuned!

  1. I was looking through facebook and saw your blog- it looks like you are having a great time in Spain. I think it's great that you are taking advantage of the opportunity and being adventurous. I always have fun catching up on what everyone is doing these days- good luck on your adventures through Europe!
